Many people are gnashing their teeth and wringing their hankies because of the Petro-hemorrhage in the gulf. Obama’s appeared and had lunch with some of the local residents. He assured us he couldn’t “suck the oil up with a straw”. That was thoughtful and nice.
It was useless. But it was special.
Obama issued a statement about making BP put aside 20 Billion Dollars for the reparations due the locals. I liked the way he claimed credit for it AFTER BP had already said they’d set aside the money. That was special. It allowed for him to play the tough guy.
It was self-aggrandizing grandstanding on his part but it was special.
Admiral Thad Allen’s been walking around and talking the good fight while waiting for BP to fight it. More special treatment noted. Thank you. But, every time some local person tries getting near the hemorrhage to actually get some oil OUT of the water, the Coast Guard comes along and shuts down the operation for an inspection. It’s allegedly because they’re worried about the safety of the boater and operator. Everybody’s so worried about people’s safety now, but where the heck were they when this malfeasance of operation was allowed to go so tragically wrong?
Admiral Allen said the best thing to do was allow BP to handle the problem because (he alluded to the idea) there was nobody available could do better under the circumstances. BP experts theorized as to how this could best be resolved. They’ve spoken. They’ve conclusively proven their theories sound. They’ve done their dead level best to CONTAIN as much of the oil as is possible. But the brain clots haven’t tried to STOP the oil’s flow have they?
That says something about where the heart of the warrior is. It sure as heck isn’t shown in the actions of any of the high government actors in this mess. It merely proves the point that some battles can’t be fought from the rear and hindsight is worthless.
It’s the actual pursuit of the goals where they lack a record of accomplishment. Everybody’s been long on talk and very much interference initiative when it comes to getting anything done. The experts throw roadblocks into operations like sandbagging and constructing sand berms to protect the outer banks. They claim environmental concerns fuel their actions. The fuel on the water should concern them more as it applies to the environment than a berm that can be removed later.
Bureaucracy and layered incompetence is NOT the way to get anything done in this case.
What the coastline needs is a lot fewer experts and more Butts in the Boats. They need fewer gasbags shooting off their mouths in press releases, photo ops and hand-wringing sessions and more people with vacuums, wearing masks and protective gear actually getting something done.
Obama, Biden, Allen and Company all need to stay away shut up and let these people resolve this issue. Diane Sawyer, Anderson Cooper and all of the media mavens have shown their support for the locals and then run like the dickens back to where they’re comfortable in their pristine home life. Ratings mean more than people to them. These posers have accomplished NOTHING and are expected to accomplish more of the same. The moral support’s appreciated but it’s not peoples’ morals in question. It’s their survival we’re worried about.
They’ve politicized this issue for their own purposes. They’re IGNORANT of how to get anything substantive done. They’ve proven that practical expertise is nothing they actually possess and that the Peter Principle is fully engaged as it pertains to this situation. They’ve all risen to the ultimate level of their own incompetence.
And as that level rises like a stopped up toilet, it can be clearly seen the government needs to lead or get out of the way. In other words, the crap’s getting deep and it’s time for you and your phony photo-ops only cohorts to put up or shut-up. It’s time to get off of the pot and either lead or stay home Mr. Obama.
Shining armor stands for nothing if it’s empty.
