Two Americans and three others were injured after the man went on a rampage near Dam Central Square.

A girl was seen with a knife sticking out of her back between her shoulders.

Amsterdam police are praising the man, calling him a hero for taking down the attacker.

Authorities are refusing to release the attacker's name at this time, claiming it's "still much too early for that."

The victims include a 67-year-old woman and a 69-year-old man from the United States, a 26-year-old man with Polish nationality, a 73-year-old woman from Belgium, and a 19-year-old woman from Amsterdam.

Police confirm that the man who took the attacker down was a tourist who "spoke English" but are not releasing any more information.
