The culture of handouts rather than hand-ups

"Entitled" to behave badly

Is it possible that the culture of handouts rather than hand-ups, along with raising every child to be awarded and rewarded regardless of achievement has created a generation that has no self respect, no idea of the correlation of work to reward and no idea how to be gracious losers?

In our effort to protect our children from hardship and disappointment, have we doomed them to a life of spoiled brats who have no tools to handle adversity or even a disappointments. We can't spank them if they throw a stiff legged fit it the grocery store. We don't have winning teams in T-ball, we don't keep score. Some schools are banning valedictorians because we don't want anyone to feel inferior. Is it possible that when an arrest or even, God forbid, a killing occurs, our citizens have not been taught how to address grievances or how to work together to understand differences? Have we not taught our children problem solving? Has technology left them unable to carry out human interaction? Has their upbringing left them feeling "entitled" to behave badly?
