America did not prosper and thrive for 230 years because of Black Friday Sales. America did not survive and grow into the greatest nation on earth because of government handouts

Farewell, Thanksgiving!

I fear for our America. I fear that we are about to learn a bitter lesson.

This year, the mainstream media skipped right past the meaning of Thanksgiving - being grateful to God for what we’ve already got - straight to the “What can we get next?” focus on Black Friday Sales. In fact, Hollywood actually started their annual round of so-called “Christmas” television programming immediately after Halloween. There was brief media coverage of the silly Presidential Pardon of the White House Turkey – and the next topic up was the White House Christmas tree. There was no telling of the brave settlers who founded America or the role that God played in their lives. And there is no mention now of the Birth of Jesus Christ, the Savior of humankind. There’s no retelling of the precious story of God’s Greatest Gift to us. There are no strains of the lovely and joyous hymns celebrating the Good News that came on Christmas Night – except in TV commercials selling something. Instead we get famous TV faces oozing sticky-sweet, feel-good sentiments in op-eds furthering the Leftist agenda. We get time-slot after time-slot filled with vacuous and saccharin little propaganda pieces, masquerading as “movies”, about the need for and “joys” of Social Justice, and the redistribution of wealth. The only connection they have to Christmas is the musical score based on “Jingle Bells”, and the red and green set decorations - oh, yeah, and the phony tree stuffed in the corner. Our ancestors would be so proud. The pilgrims made a make-it-or-break-it move across an entire ocean, and landed in the New World with only what they could carry in their two hands. Some didn’t make it at all because they died along the way. There was no shelter, until they cut the trees and built it themselves. They had only the food that remained after the voyage – the little that had not spoiled - and that meant hunting for sustenance or starving. Survival was a hard, day-to-day struggle for months, and many of them didn’t make it. They died from the hardship. But through the Grace of God, they built viable settlements that thrived and grew. And it made perfect sense to them when someone suggested a Day of Thanksgiving, and a celebration to recognize the Blessings that God had bestowed on them. Apparently, however, we modern-day Americans don’t get that part anymore. Now, it's all about choking down as much food as humanly possible, and then running out to fight over goods we don’t even need – just because the media told us we should go. It would appear that we don’t think we need God’s Blessings any more. In fact, as a nation, we’ve made it pretty plain that He’s irrelevant now. So, we ban prayer in our schools, prohibit community Nativity scenes, and try in every way possible to eliminate Him from our world altogether. And if we quit on Him, why shouldn’t He quit on us? And what happens when He does? Can you stop a tornado from hitting your house? No. You cannot, and neither can I. Only God can. Only HE is All-Knowing and All-Powerful. And if He decides to remove His protective hand from America… if He decides to let us flounder and fail on our own… it’s gonna be ugly for ALL of us. Governments did not invent Charity, or Love, or Forgiveness, or Kindness and Compassion. GOD taught us those things before men even thought of “government”. HE taught us those things through His own provision for and protection of us. He demonstrated them by showing His own Love and Compassion and Forgiveness to us. As individuals – AND as a nation – we had better remember that, or we will lose those Blessings. We will lose His provision and protection. America did not prosper and thrive for 230 years because of Black Friday Sales. America did not survive and grow into the greatest nation on earth because of government handouts. We survived, prospered and thrived because we remembered to reverently thank God - privately AND publicly - for His many Blessings. And because we did, He continued to bless us. © Diana Clark 2010 Diana Clark is a Christian, grandmother, conservative Constitutionalist, a Vet, from three generations of Vets - and would rather do a good CW two-step than eat.
