Finding Paul Badde and The Veil of Manoppello Again

Like most folk, God Almighty comes looking for me when I am the most down at heart.

Beset with worries about the sudden declining health of several of my closest friends; the fate of Canada Free Press with a “new” prime minister determined to muzzle any leftover Truth Tellers, yesterday was one of those days.

While aimlessly searching the ‘Net in the hope of finding any good news, I came across Jaroslaw Redziak, producer and director’ of the movie, ‘Face of God’ , shown nation-wide in American theatres on June 3. ,

“The movie brings audiences a powerful experience of the most mysterious, rare and revered images of Jesus and brings audiences a cinematic face-to-face encounter with God that is compelling, provocative and awe inspiring! (Lepanto Institute)

“There is endless fascination with who God is, what he looked like and if it’s possible that he has left us an image of himself,” said Jaroslaw Redziak, producer and director of The Face of Jesus. “We set out to examine three of the most popular images that reveal the face of God – two divine images not made by human hands – the famous Shroud of Turin and the Veil of Manoppello. We also weave in the third image of Jesus made by human hands, the divinely inspired image known as the Vilnius image of the Divine Mercy. Audiences will be fascinated by what they see and what they hear about these astounding images of the face of Jesus.”

Paul Badde and the Veil of Manoppello are no strangers to me.

Having read Badde’s book, The Holy Veil of Manoppello: The Human Face of God and later having been sent a video, which I consider the most cherished CFP possession, in finding him again yesterday, I was no longer down at heart.

The timing of Polish film maker Redziak’s movie release couldn’t possibly have been more remarkable. June is the month dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Catholic News Agency interviewed the film’s producer and director to discuss the film, and described what the movie is about as follows:

"Over the centuries, many people have asked: “What did Jesus look like?” A new documentary attempts to answer this question.

“The Face of Jesus” examines two acheiropoietic images of Christ — the Shroud of Turin and the Veil of Manoppello, both believed to be divinely created — as well as the Vilnius image of the Divine Mercy, one of the most extraordinary hand-painted depictions of Jesus.

“To discover what our Savior might have looked like, the film takes viewers back 2,000 years to Jesus’ tomb in Jerusalem and then on to Rome and the small Italian village of Manoppello.”

In addition to my elation upon finding Paul Badde’s ‘Face of God’ and Veil of Manoppello again, I went on to find the Devotion to the Face of God prayer, which is known as ‘The Golden Arrow’ Prayer.

“May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most incomprehensible and unutterable Name of God be always praised, blessed, loved, adored and glorified in Heaven,  on earth, and under the earth, by all the creatures of God, and by the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Amen"
