Firkin University Helps Students and Graduates Dig Their Way Out of Mounting Student Debt

Did you know that Canada student loan debt surpassed $13 billion in January 2009


The economic crisis has put students and graduates in a tough situation, job prospects are slim and the added stress to make payment deadlines on student loans only adds to pressure. There is all sorts of funding available for students as they enter school but what about when they finish? The Firkin Group of Pubs understands the pressures faced by students and graduates and wants to help, which is why they are bringing back their innovative Say FU2 Student Debt campaign and are giving away $25,000 in total in debt relieving cash for a second year in a row.

Five winners will be chosen based on the best video submissions and will receive $5,000 which will be paid directly to against their student loan. For more information about the campaign, check out our release.

Quick facts about student debt:

The average student in Canada owes around $20,000 two years after graduation (StatsCan, 2007) A 28,000 loan paid back over 10 years will cost a student $42,563 in total payments (Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance, 2003) One-in-three post-secondary graduates reported having difficulty paying off their student debt two years after graduation (StatsCan, 2009)

Interested participants are encouraged to share their stories of greatness in a Firkin worthy video and then upload it to www.firkinuniversity.com for everyone to see To be eligible to enter, participants must be a resident of Ontario and have a minimum of $5,000 in student debt. Submissions will be accepted throughout the summer online at www.firkinuniversity.com
