First Family’s African trip

I guess everything is relative. We hear that the price tag for the First Family's African vacation is in line with the cost of similar trips by previous Presidents. It simply seems to me that there are lots of fine vacation destinations that wouldn't require an aircraft carrier to be standing by. Places that the President, Michelle and the girls could relax and spend family time are abundant and I'm sure they would welcome the economic boost.

In my mind, the issue is this: We need our President to be present and accounted for as we face challenges at home and abroad. We don't need him on some remote, dangerous and expensive tour. He should be able to talk to his top advisors about developments in the middle east and national scandals at home, face to face. We are in crisis mode in this country. The President's obligation is to the Country he leads, not to the continent of his birth. Bruce Butler
