‘Fleeting’ issues

It was disconcerting to hear the President call the latest trio of scandals, "fleeting issues".

For the families of the Benghazi victims, the targets of the IRS and the Associated Press, the stories will be with them forever. But the reality, the President was correct, we are being played by the system of governance and reporting that plans the release of news for maximum or minimum impact. That holds back stories for the express purpose of releasing at a time and place to achieve the most distraction. And we fall for it, over and over. We the people need to stay with the story until resolution. We must not assist the government in their mission of replacing one story with another. And we must not assist the press by allowing them to break the beginning of the story but not the end of the story. How many times have you thought back and wonder "What ever happened with that story?" Resolution should include consequences. To date, every mistake, lack of leadership, miscommunication -- or whatever elusive label is chosen -- has resulted in reports, recommendations, and resignations by some poor schmuck who was thrown under the bus.
