Knowing that major news outlet Fox News has a habit of promoting questionable polls on President Donald Trump, Canada Free Press (CFP) decided to take a closer look at their latest one: ‘Nearly half of Americans think Trump should suspend 2024 campaign after indictment: poll April 10, 2023’.

This particular poll, an ABC News/Ipsos one claiming that nearly half of Americans think Trump should suspend his 2024 campaign after the last week DA Alvin Bragg’s indictment—polled only 566 people.

So 566 people is their version of “nearly half of the 300-million American population?

“Many” does not come close to “more than half” of Americans

How’s that for Fake News!

To be perfectly clear the poll is an ABC News/ Ipsos one—but Fox News promoted it on their front page.

“As former President Donald Trump ramps up his 2024 presidential campaign, new polling reveals that while more than half of Americans believe he intentionally did something illegal after his indictment, many believe it was politically motivated.” (Fox News, April 10, 2023).

“Many” does not come close to “more than half” of Americans.

“Trump was arraigned Tuesday in New York City on charges stemming from alleged 2016 hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, making him the first former president in American history to be criminally charged. (Fox News)
“A recent ABC News/Ipsos poll found that 48% of Americans think Trump should suspend his presidential campaign following the indictment, up 5 points from last week.
“The survey reported that 53% of respondents think that Trump's actions were intentionally illegal. According to the poll, 20% of voters believe Trump did nothing wrong, while 11% said while they think he acted improperly, it was not intentionally illegal.
“About 52% of respondents view the charges as serious, up 2 percentage points when compared to an ABC/Ipsos poll from last week, while 39% do not view the indictment as serious.

Fox never said how many were polled nor did they Link to the Poll

“Following Trump’s indictment, 45% of Americans believe the 2024 candidate should be charged with a crime, up 5-points from last week’s poll. According to the poll, 32% of respondents do not think he should face charges.
“Nearly half of respondents, 47%, believe the indictment was politically motivated, with 32% saying politics did not play a role in the criminal probe.”

And the last line?

“When separated among party affiliation, 16% of Democrats, 48% of independents, and 79% of Republicans believe the indictment was politically driven.”

Holy Mackerel! Get a load of the ugly picture of Trump in the Fox article, in which he appears to be covered all over with orange, pressing home the Fake Media’s ‘Orange Man Bad’ theory.

Nowhere in this latest Fox story did Fox ever point out that it is not half of Americans—but half of 566 people polled in the ABC News/Ipsos poll who “think Trump should suspend (his) 2024 campaign after (his) indictment”, nor did they link to the poll.

Fake News is not the exclusive province of fake news and propaganda constantly blared on Trump-hating CNN and MSNBC— but appears on the front page of the supposedly Conservative, once ‘Fair & Balanced’—Fox News.
