Freedom is under attack

In the federal government of the United States, the Attorney General is a member of the Cabinet and as head of the Department of Justice is the top law enforcement officer and lawyer for the government. That makes our Attorney General a very powerful person. He or she is the number one person to protect our rights under our Constitution.

Let's take a look at the controversies surrounding Attorney General Eric Holder. He convinced the president to announce closure of the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, a policy that since has been rescinded. He is being investigated about his knowledge of the Fast and Furious program which placed hundreds of guns in the hands of drug cartels and resulted in the death of an ATF agent. He attempted to try 9/11 conspirators in New York City. He withdrew a lawsuit of the Black Panthers for violation of the Voter Rights Act. He decided to sue Arizona over their immigration law. And now he is defending the President's right to kill an American who is thought to be dangerous without the benefit of a trial. This is in direct conflict with the Fifth Amendment which forbids the government from taking our life, liberty or property without due process. This should scare every person in this country who believes that the government is not a threat to them. This government, with its head attorney, Eric Holder, backed up by the president, is moving daily to take our liberties. J. C. Bowen Rotonda West, FL
