Seriously?
Deep in Virginia, there is a little farm listed in the National Park Service. It gets no Federal money, funded by private endowment since 1980. Daily, volunteers dedicated to a kinder, gentler life dress in period costume and tend a farm replicated to 1771. They dip beeswax candles, mull cider, make apple butter and teach civic, church and school groups of children what life was like when this country was about to be born. Tuesday, the National Park Service showed up with police officers and physically ordered all the volunteers off the premises, and had the animals removed. No amount of pleading by their volunteers nor Board of Directors was heard. The logic that it was costing the NPS more to chase the volunteers away than the NPS had expended for their existence in 32 years fell on deaf ears. Why? Because logic and reasoning are as unwelcome on federal property as we are.
They even have a name for this behavior and I would argue that it qualifies as a mental illness diagnosis. The ‘Washington Monument Strategy’ first closed the People’s House to, well, We the People, and now we have devolved to armed security barring our senior veterans and school children from their monuments and their heritage.
Is this who we want to become?
All this is to protect the immediate implementation of Obamacare. Obama’s ego and Obamacare seem to be surgically attached. They are larger than life, at least the life of the little people. People who live paycheck to paycheck are now at home panicking about how they will pay the bills this month. All because Barry won’t talk to Republicans. He says the law is the law and no adjustments can be made, but life is a series of adjustments. This administration saw fit to adjust for themselves, Congress and big business donors (as long as they are not Christian), but no adjustments for you & me. If this plan is so wonderful, where is the photo-op of the President and First Lady thrilled to be the first to sign up for it? Nowhere to be found. As long as they live, they will NEVER be under the boot of Obamacare.
Someone has to step up and act like an adult. I can no longer tell the difference between what this administration is doing TO us and what they are doing FOR us. I am sad that this is no longer the country my father fought for in WWII, Korea and Vietnam but I am glad he is not here to see this. It saddens me that I can not find any respect for the man who was supposed to be the most powerful man in the world. I grew up believing that office was reserved for the best and the brightest. I still believe in the solemnity of the office, but not in the petty vindictive occupant. I believe in the shining beacon on the hill. We do live in interesting times, but they are dark times as well. A heavy blanket of shame is dimming the light of good people.
Clearly, the Grinch who stole the White House is in need of a mommy.
But he needs far more than a mother’s hug, he needs a time out.
Time to learn about grace and dignity.
A righteous leader could do that.
