MARKHAM, ON, - Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. announced today that federal government agencies across the country have added the stylish and fuel-efficient Sonata Hybrid to its fleet of vehicles. The Sonata Hybrid intermediate sedan offers the latest in fuel-saving technology to achieve a best-in-class highway fuel efficiency rating of 4.6 L/100 km.

A total of 56 Sonata Hybrids were delivered to eight agencies in cities from St. John's to Edmonton earlier this year. The vehicles will be used by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Health Canada and the Department of Transportation, among others. "Canadians everywhere are looking for vehicles with the best fuel efficiency and Hyundai is committed to leading the industry," said Steve Kelleher, President and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. "The Sonata Hybrid is an example of how Hyundai takes advantage of the latest technology and applies it to its products to ensure its vehicles go further on a tank of gas." The Sonata Hybrid is a full parallel hybrid and the first to utilize a combination of lithium-polymer batteries and a 6-speed automatic transmission. With an advanced architecture, the Sonata Hybrid can be powered by the electric motor, the gasoline engine or a combination of the two, even at highway speeds. Lithium-polymer batteries are smaller, lighter, last longer, provide more durability and have a higher energy density than the more common nickel-metal hydride batteries found in most hybrid vehicles today. With a 6-speed automatic, the Sonata Hybrid delivers a rewarding driving experience similar to a traditional car. "The Sonata Hybrid's combination of its unique architecture, advanced lithium-polymer batteries and 6-speed automatic allows it to appeal to a broad range of car buyers and deliver incredible fuel economy. In fact, it's the most fuel-efficient vehicle in the Hyundai fleet," added Kelleher. Hyundai Auto Canada, established in 1983 and headquartered in Markham, Ontario, is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company of Korea. Hyundai vehicles are distributed throughout Canada by Hyundai Auto Canada and are sold and serviced through more than 195 dealerships nationwide.
