Government shutdown

Partisan victories

The American people are not stupid. We KNOW that there is waste, fraud, abuse and foreign aid that could and should all be cut.

There are expensive perks and frivolous studies that could be eliminated. We KNOW that no entity can operate in the red forever. We KNOW that there are too many people that are unemployed and dependent on welfare. We KNOW that there are too many people on the government payroll and too few paying their pay checks. We are also smart enough to know that the government is aiming to impose the maximum pain and to elicit the highest emotional responses with the shutdown. We know that they are playing a game and that we are the pawns. There is no reason that we can't cut the fat. There is no reason not to postpone Obamacare until the bugs are worked out and the real impact is known. There is no reason not to examine every expenditure and consider the merits. There is no reason why the President, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi can't sit down with Republican leaders and stay at it until agreement is reached. One hour does not constitute a true attempt at fixing the problems. Remember, more Americans think this whole thing is about partisan victories and that none of it is about what is best for the country. Gerald Manegold North Port, FL
