Gun shows

I went to a local gun show this weekend and I got more than a few surprises. The first was that shortly in the door I stopped in front of an proud pro-Obama vendor. You see, I had been conditioned to believe that "those gun people" were all extremely conservative Republicans.

My next surprise was the large numbers of people paying $5.00 a piece to get in the door. Then there was the ages of the attendees, they were not all over 55 by any means. It appeared to represent the demographics as a whole with the majority being seniors but a reasonable mix. I was also impressed with the variety of merchandise from leather goods, knives, tee shirts, collectible weapons and actual firearms. You could sign up for concealed carry classes and to get information on gun laws. I may never attend another gun show but I'm glad I did once. It opened my eyes even more to the bias in our society and to the fear-mongering. Shirley Reynolds Englewood, FL
