Harris As President--Does It Matter That She's A Woman?

Time and time again we keep hearing that someone is going to be the “first woman” to be… What does that say about society? Are we so biased that it seems that it doesn’t matter the qualifications of the person – only that they are of one sex or another? Whether someone is white or black or any other ethnic group shouldn’t have anything to do with their ability to do the job, either, should it?

I, personally, am proud of all of the outstanding women, throughout history, who have been successful for what they brought to the position and not because they were the first woman. We merely have to look at Queen Elizabeth the First, etc., to realize what women could and have continued to do, throughout history.

What we fail to see are all of those other successful women who have been the leaders of countries, states, provinces, etc. We also seem to forget all of those women who have pushed forward with settling countries, right from the very beginning of time.

One merely has to go to Wikipedia to find the list of hundreds, if not thousands, of women who have been there, done that, so why is there such an overzealous promotion of Kamala Harris merely because she is a woman, for president? In reality, there shouldn’t be.

Not to take away any of her qualities – for or against her – but seriously if people are merely voting for her because she is a woman, that does nothing for democracy nor does it do anything for the people of the United States.

The other issue is--whether Americans believe Trump is bad, it won’t mean a thing. This is based in the thought, that if Harris does get elected--it may be categorized that she was elected because she was a woman.

Harris being the first woman President, if elected, won’t mean anything if she is elected merely because she was a woman, will it?

Will the world will look at this election as the United States merely electing a person under the banner of affirmative action, instead of electing someone for their abilities, intellect, talents, policies, etc.? Doesn’t this completely undermine what the U.S. has stood for? To continue to promote and/or undermine Harris, merely because she is a woman, is to undermine the entire democratic process.

Remember she really isn’t the first. She, if elected, will merely be included in a long list of other women who have been elected for their abilities, not because they were women or what colour their skin was. And if Americans were looking at electing a woman for President, they could have done many times before.

The promotion of Harris, merely because she is a woman, undermines every and all of those superior women who have come before her and therefore it only undermines what women have been doing for centuries--being great leaders of their nations, their families and the world.

One can only be of the thought that shame on those who continue to degrade the strong capable women who have/had and continue to lead this world with statements that “Harris will be the first woman” to rise to the occasion-- in the scheme of things her being the first woman President, if elected, won’t mean anything if she is elected merely because she was a woman, will it?
