He’d Rather Be Fishin’

Bush Derangement Syndrome has morphed into something even sicker and weirder. It was bad enough when President Bush was in office and his enemies, opponents, and critics undermined every move he made to protect this country. It was bad enough when, as president, they called him “war criminal,” “Hitler,” “evil,” and “incompetent boob.”

It was bad enough when, as president, they splashed state secrets across the front pages about how he was prosecuting the war. It was bad enough when, as president, they undercut his credibility as Commander-in-Chief. It was bad enough when, as president, they hamstrung his ability to prosecute the war in Iraq. All of that was bad enough when they did it to him while he was president. But he’s no longer in office. There’s a new guy in there now, and yet, they seem not to have noticed. Because these same people—-who made Bush-bashing into not just a cottage industry but a military-industrial complex—-are so obsessed with him (still!) that they continue to beat the dead horse. Bush himself has stayed quiet as his record and administration are continually torn up. But his Vice President? No. His VP isn’t taking this fresh assault lying down. He has had it with these mad lunatics running around, taking machine guns to the Bush legacy and lying about it, when they’re not even in office anymore. Another thing Cheney isn’t taking lying down? That the new guy is dismantling every part of the national security apparatus he and President Bush put in place over 7 years—-things that have a 100% perfect track record for having kept us safe. Keeping this great nation safe and secure is Cheney’s life’s work. This isn’t just what Cheney was tasked to do after 9/11. He was Chief of Staff to President Ford. He was a member of Congress. He was Secretary of Defense under President Bush 41. And he was VP. Making sure this country is secure from its enemies has been his primary job for 40 years. And the arrogant, naive Bama team are taking it all apart, based on a self-indulgent, personal view of how the world SHOULD be, not on how it really is. Cheney—-wise, brilliant, patriotic (yeah, I said it!)—-is not about to sit by and let it happen without drawing public attention to the new guy’s dereliction of duty. Cheney’s public comments are not about him. He’d rather be fishin’. This is about America—-keeping her safe, keeping her great, and keeping her citizens alive.
