"An exploratory committee in the next couple of weeks, and a formal announcement by May?"...And Carson didn't hesitate in his answer.
“I believe that sounds like a reasonable time frame. Absolutely.”Wallace then followed up:
"Really? You're saying it. You're going to announce an exploratory committee this month and a formal announcement of your presidential run this spring."To which Carson replied: "Well, you know, I'm a very careful person. So I want to make sure I have all of the infrastructure in place - be able, if I make such an announcement, to tell you the answers to all the questions that you're going to be asking in terms of personnel and rationale. So we're putting all that together. Yes." The "if I make such an announcement" bit leaves him a little wiggle room, but the rest of this answer clearly indicates Carson's intent. In American politics, this is about as close as you can get to an official announcement without actually making one.
