Neither Democrats nor Republicans are serious about securing the border

Illegal Immigration and Marco Rubio’s Compassion

Senator Rubio's position on the immigration issue had been interpreted by conservatives to mean that he supported border security measures first, before the initial legalization.
However, during an interview in Spanish with Univision TV station, Rubio stated: “Let’s be clear; nobody is talking about preventing the legalization. The legalization is going to happen. That means the following will happen: First comes the legalization. Then come the measures to secure the border. And then comes the process of permanent residence. The legalization is not conditional." This statement seems to contradict his previous position. When confronted with the discrepancy, Rubio stated "he probably should have been more artful in the use of terms” when he said at Univision that the bill first provides for legalization of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S., and then, after that, for increased border security. What a marvelous way Marco Rubio has with words! He knows how to parse them so well that makes conservatives like Sean Hannity fall in love with his eloquent speeches and laud him as an American hero. And just think of the Republicans who were crushed when Mitt Romney chose Paul Ryan as his VP instead of Marco Rubio!

Senator Rubio is indeed a clever politician; good looks, charm, eloquence, Hispanic, and the golden boy of the Republican establishment. What else did he need to become the first Hispanic President? The courting of the Tea Party by selling his well rehearsed story of a poor immigrant family from communist Cuba was a clever move, but soon holes in the story began to unravel. His parents had actually immigrated before Fidel Castro came to power in Cuba. As usual, Rubio was able to explain it away with his eloquent parsing of words, a kind of Hillary Clinton "What difference does it make" what year my parents arrived in the US? Recently, in an interview with CBN News Senator Marco Rubio claimed "Biblical compassion" as a motive for supporting the Gang of Eight immigration bill. It seems Rubio is getting so desperate for acceptance of his view on this amnesty bill that he is now compelled to use religion as his excuse. I wonder which Bible he is speaking of; a Mormon Bible? the Catholic Bible? or a Protestant Bible? Marco Rubio has been a member of all these three churches. He went on to claim that rank and file Evangelicals are supporting the immigration bill without disclosing that it is actually an evangelical elitist group that is supported by the atheist George Soros. It seems Senator Rubio has no problems with "Liberation Theology" which is what the "social justice Christians" preach; a cult that has been condemned by both Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict. It is not just disingenuous but highly cynical for Senator Rubio to portray himself as a man of faith while working with leftist groups like La Raza and preaching a form of redistribution of wealth in a phony compassion scheme. Senator, do you know the Ten Commandments? Does not the eight commandment say YOU SHALL NOT STEAL and the ninth commandment say DO NOT COVET YOUR NEIGHBOR'S PROPERTY. Unfortunately Senator Rubio seems to follow the Marxist doctrine of Liberation Theology instead of the Judeo/Christian Commandments. As I mentioned to Senator Rubio in a letter/petition delivered to his DC office: We are not responsible for every poor and uneducated human being in this world. Our government was not instituted as a welfare agency. It was formed to represent the needs and wishes of the citizens of our country and the elected officials have no right to use taxpayers money to pander for votes or to act as philanthropists. If you wish to help our poor neighbors in Mexico, then you should press that government to take better care of its citizens and be more responsible for the security of the border. Senator Rubio seems much more concerned about illegal aliens who broke our laws than for the American people who pay his salary. There is no such compassion when it comes to the American taxpayers, to the struggling families, and those who are unemployed in our country. The US Senate just killed an amendment submitted by Senator Grassley to secure the border with Mexico before any kind of amnesty or legalization for illegal aliens is granted. Senator Rubio voted with Senator Harry Reid to table the amendment. Neither Democrats nor Republicans are serious about securing the border. For the Democrats an open border means more votes from low information voters who seek welfare benefits. For the Republicans it means more illegal aliens entering the labor force at lower wages to please their special interests friends. For the rest of us, it means the end of our democratic Republic. How about a debate on the Immigration bill between Senator Rubio and Ann Coulter? Wouldn't that be worth watching? The other night when asked by Hannity what to do with the 11 million illegal aliens, Coulter answer was: NOTHING. If they have lived for years as illegal aliens in our country, then let them stay that way. What difference does it make?

Elvira Fernandez Hasty -- Bio and Archives

Elvira Fernandez Hasty was born in La Habana, Cuba, to immigrants from Spain.  She attended a private Catholic school for women, French Dominicans School, until the age of fifteen.  At that time, the Castro regime militia invaded her home one night in order to question her 20 year old sister, Rose, about her involvement in “counter-revolution” at the University.  After some months of anguish, my father arranged for Rose to obtain diplomatic protection from the country of Honduras, and the decision was also made to send me away before confiscation of private schools by the communist government.  My sister flew to Honduras under the protection of the Ambassador on January 24, 1961, while I left the country for Florida the next day via the Pedro Pan organization that was formed to protect Cuban children from Marxist indoctrination.

After finishing high school in Florida and working at an electric company billing department, Elvira continued her studies at St. Mary College in Kansas.  She graduated cum laude with a BS in Chemistry and later received her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana, IL.  Dr. Hasty spent twenty years in college teaching and research, becoming Associate Professor of Chemistry and Chairperson at Mundelein College in Chicago.

In 1997, Elvira and her husband James, moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, where she currently resides.  She has been politically active since then, first in the Republican Party and lately in her own conservative organization, Ponte Vedra Conservative Women, a group of conservative women concerned about the future of our country. We are united by our common desire to preserve our Constitution, the principles of our Founding Fathers, and our Judeo/Christian values.
