AIAMC Members See Some Recovery in Vehicle Sales in March

International automakers in Canada report Canadian Sales for March 2009

- David C. Adams Overall vehicle sales in Canada were down 15% in March to 127,489 units versus the 150,024 sold in March 2008. AIAMC member companies sales were down 11% for March at 69,264 units compared to last March (See attached). Year to date sales for the industry are down 21.8%, while YTD sales for AIAMC members are down 13.3%

Overall light duty truck sales were down 11.4% in March while passenger vehicle sales were down 18.2% compared to March last year. For AIAMC members, truck sales were down 8.8% while passenger car sales were down 11.9% compared to last March. Year to date overall truck sales are down 18% while passenger car sales are down 25.2%. For AIAMC members, year to date truck sales are down 8.8% while passenger car sales are down 15.2% AIAMC members’ had a 54.3% market share for the month of March compared to 51.9% market share for March 2008. Year to date market share for AIAMC members is 54.2% Positive March February highlights for some AIAMC member companies include:
  • Audi – March sales of 979 (record) up 25.4% from March 2008
  • BMW – March sales of 2,018 up 7.3% from March 2008
  • Hyundai - March sales of 8,818 up 25.5% from March 2008
  • Kia – March sales of 3,555 (record)( up 12.6% from March 2008
  • Mercedes (less smart)– March sales of 2,181 up 26% from March 2008
  • Mitsubishi – March sales of 1,983 (record) up 8.9% from March 2008
  • Porsche – March sales of 172 up 9.6% from March 2008
  • Subaru – March sales of 1,878 (record) up 14.6% from March 2008
