This afternoon, during an appearance at Miami Dade College, Jeb Bush will give his official "launch speech" announcing his 2016 candidacy. However, that's really just the period at the end of the sentence. He's already made it clear that he intends to run - first with a tweet, then with a pre-announcement video.
First, here's the tweet, which uses an updated version of the logo from his gubernatorial campaigns.
See the video below...
Call me crazy, but if you're trying to stress how "new" you are, re-using an old logo might not be the best way to go.
Likewise, he's going to have a long, tough, slog as he tries to sell conservatives on the idea that their perception of "Jeb the RINO" is incorrect. He's hammering away at the "conservative principles" angle in this clip, but it remains to be seen if he can convince the base that he's worth supporting. If the base doesn't buy it, all he's doing is helping to elect Hillary.
I've maintained all along that Bush's biggest problem is going to be his last name. First, anyone who tries to claim the Bush brand wasn't politically tarnished by George W's last two or three years in office is simply kidding themselves. Second, voters seem to have little interest in continuing the Bush - or Clinton - dynasty.
We can argue all day about whether or not that's fair, but it's the reality he faces.
Jeb's on to something when he says we need "new" leadership, but he’s going to have an awfully hard time making the case that there's anything fresh about casting a ballot for a member of America’s number one political family.
