The HST is a $3 Billion tax grab that will hit seniors, middle income families and small business the hardest

MacLeod introduces motion to halt HST in Ontario

QUEEN'S PARK – If a PC Caucus motion passes, Ontarians will be spared from paying the HST. PC Revenue and Government Accountability Critic to put forward a motion that would halt HST legislation until such time the McGuinty Liberals would get a mandate from voters.

MacLeod’s motion, to be debated in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario on May 19th, cites Dalton McGuinty oath, “I will not raise taxes or implement any new taxes without the explicit consent of Ontario voters.” Since McGuinty has now admitted the HST “will be an increase in taxation,” MacLeod’s motion would delay the implementation of the HST until a date following the next provincial general election. This is the next initiative in a series of steps the PC Caucus has taken to fight the HST. In December, several members of the PC Caucus took extraordinary measures to protest the HST in the chamber, while MacLeod and PC Finance Critic also introduced over 500,000 amendments to the HST bill. To date, over 100,000 Ontarians have signed petitions in the PC Campaign to stop the tax. Quotes "Dalton McGuinty took an oath that he would not raise taxes, and broke that promises with the single largest sales tax increase this province has ever seen. I think the voters should have a say of whether to bring in this HST tax grab or not." -- Lisa MacLeod, Ontario PC MPP for Nepean-Carleton and Critic for Revenue and Government Accountability "The HST is a $3 Billion tax grab that will hit seniors, middle income families and small business the hardest. It’s time that they had a say on Dalton McGuinty’s plan to raise their taxes." -- Lisa MacLeod, Ontario PC MPP for Nepean-Carleton and Critic for Revenue and Government Accountability
