McGuinty Governments’ relentless assaults upon our rural economy, our rural institutions, and the rural heritage

Maverick MPP Hillier to Focus on Rural Ontario

(Perth) – In an announcement today, Randy Hillier MPP, was named the Ontario PC Party’s critic for Rural Affairs. Hillier has earned a reputation for his independence in thought and for his actions as a long-time champion and outspoken advocate of rural Ontario. Hillier is proud to accept this new role at Queen’s Park.

“I have watched, with great angst, the McGuinty Governments’ relentless assaults upon our rural economy, our rural institutions, and the rural heritage of justice and culture of freedom which built our great province. For years, I have been resolute in asserting our rural rights and will now escalate my opposition to these Liberal attacks having been asked to serve as the PC Party’s rural voice in the Ontario Legislature,” Hillier said. Hillier’s voice has already resonated in the Legislature as he has countered the Liberal Party’s assaults on farmers’ markets, church suppers, and local butcher shops. “I realize that the actions of this Toronto-centric government towards rural Ontario are as unique as they are unjust. However, unlike other policies of the McGuinty Government which exemplify ignorance on autopilot, the attacks on rural Ontario have been calculated and deliberate,” Hillier charged. In addition to his role as Rural Affairs critic, Hillier will join his colleague John O’Toole, MPP for Durham, as an Associate Critic for Municipal Affairs and Housing. “Small & rural municipalities will be my focus and will be promoted with equal vigour,” Hillier concluded.
