MLK v. Al Sharpton, Barak Obama, et al

America, prepare to be offended.

August 28, 2013. A coven of racists who have done more to undermine present day American Civil Rights since the KKK will convene in Washington DC to desecrate the memory of the greatest civil rights advocate of all time. Not since the rum running slave traders has this country been plagued by worse scourges and divisive racists than Al Sharpton and Barak Obama. For reasons which surpass understanding they are being honored by the Kool Aid kids. Perhaps there will be vendors surrounding the reflecting pool handing out straws so attendees can suck up the Kool Aid I suspect is being dumped in there even as I write. This is an insult to the intelligence of every American. Whether or not there is color in your gene pool is irrelevant, for THAT is what Martin Luther King taught us. I grew up believing in the Kennedy Camelot and the MLK mountaintop. These were leaders whose lives were relevant and worthy of respect. Flawed men, but men possessive of a greatness that none of this week’s cast of ’characters’ can ever hope to be worthy of comparison. Trayvon Martin’s family is included in this farce as honored guests. Why? Did Trayvon Martin do something heroic to lessen racism in a country struggling to do the right thing? Did any of his relationships or social media releases support that theory? A jury of his killer’s peers decided that his death, while tragic and avoidable, was not a race crime. Is there any reason to include the Martins and ignore the families of Chris Lane, “Shorty” Belton Channon Christian, Christopher Newsom and dozens of others who were killed for the sin of being white? Are their deaths less relevant than Trayvon Martin’s? This week’s dog & pony show is less a celebration of how far we have come since MLK risked his life to keep the spotlight on our nation’s shame, but rather it casts a giant shadow over what needs to be done to self correct the imbalanced pendulum. We honor him with raising the content of our collective character. We validate his life’s work by standing shoulder to shoulder together and pushing aside the men who focus on our differences with a purpose to drive us further apart. In the last 5 years, Barak Obama has brought Civil Rights to a screeching halt. Al Sharpton has made a career out of pouring gas on a dwindling fire. His curriculum vitae is littered with examples of government agendas subjugating black and poor white people on Uncle Sam’s Plantation. This is not at all what we were taught about Martin Luther King’s purpose before the history books had time to skew the concept of acceptance. Martin Luther King taught me to love the power of words, he could preach like no other, and without a teleprompter. But his time honored eloquence was only as compelling as his example. He spoke to generations yet unborn, generations Obama seeks to keep unborn. He died working to create better social structure for all of us with determination, grace and a generosity of spirit, the likes of which current politics cannot fathom. Please don’t fail him now. He deserves a far better legacy than a collection of racist publicity # dancing on his grave. Boycott the show. Instead, reach out, commit an act of generous spirit.
