It all began as part of the National Defense Authorization Act which included language that allowed indefinite detention of those suspected of engaging in hostilities against the United States. Tea Parties and other groups felt the definition of hostilities were vague and could include Americans who were outspoken. They also objected to the "without a trial" requirement. The law was challenged and US District Judge Katherine Forrest ruled supporting the Tea Party position. But the story doesn't end here. The architect of the bill, Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan, says that he will defy the judge because he doesn't believe she was correct. He sees no reason to clarify the language. This story is significant for the total lack of media coverage of another Tea Party win. It is also concerning because of the government's refusal to follow the rule of law.
