No ID, No Beer, but can vote

Yesterday I went into a Nice and Easy gas station to buy a six pack of beer. They demanded I supply a ID. I am 72 years old. No ID, no beer. However, if I go to vote no ID is necessary...... Is there anything rational there.....?
