Our media-coddled president

I find it outrageous that a news organization would change, add or subtract from a quote by anyone -- even the President of the United States.

It is not their job to edit his words. He should be calling them on the carpet. He should demand to be quoted correctly, even if he misspeaks. So, when he says we should deepen the Gulf ports like Savannah, Charleston and Jacksonville, it isn't up to the Associated Press to fix the quote before printing it. Whether you believe it was a human error or a sign of his deficiency in United States geography isn't the issue. The issue is that he said what he said. By editing his quote, the AP gave validity to the belief by many of us that the media coddles this President. The same media that painted President George W. Bush as a bumbling fool, paints Obama like seasoned statesman. Neither is accurate. The American people have a right to expect accuracy in reporting, even if the reporter or media outlet find it distasteful to do so. Lois Virgo
