Niagara Escarpment Commission

Political Parties and the NEC

Dear Editor; I would like to ask why anyone is voting for the PC Party, the Liberal Party or the NDP? Recently I have been researching the Niagara Escarpment Commission (NEC) and the Niagara Escarpment Planning and Development Act (NEPDA), and I find that all of these political parties are exactly the same. John Robarts was Premier (PC Party) during the creation of the original Niagara Escarpment Protection Act, now NEPDA. Under this Act, government knew they had to purchase the land before any regulation/zoning/planning could happen, as the land had to be in, or owned, by the Crown to do this. This was stated time and time again in the Legislative Debates.
Sadly for Ontarians, Bill Davis came to power. Bill Davis' government decided they could not afford to purchase the land to fulfill their strategy for the NEPDA, parks, etc., so they decided to just steal it. That's right, his government decided to take the wealth from the rural property owners, dictating that the rural property owner could not do anything with their land, because of what his government referred to as "zoning." Now this zoning was also to be for the "Parkway Belt Plan," and it worked in conjunction with the NEC. Under this Parkway Belt and the NEPDA the government contrived to take property owner's land into a "land reserve" for future public use. Unfortunately for government unless the land and Crown rights for land use were reserved in the Letters Patent there is no way government can make private patented property into a "land reserve" for future public use. So what has this to do with all of the "big 3" political parties, you may ask. From the Legislative Debates the Liberals and NDP accused Bill Davis' government of stealing the land; of being communists. The PC government was also told, by the opposition, that any land in the NEPDA, etc., decreased in value by up to 90%. They knew they were taking people's wealth. After all, people worked hard trying to leave a substantial inheritance for their children. Bill Davis, the PCs, Liberals and NDP stole that wealth so people, from the cities, wouldn't have to travel north for recreation. When the PC's left power, both the Liberals and the NDP gained power and neither did anything to correct this wrong, they continued the same actions as the PCs. Bill Davis, it would seem, is still running the PC Party from the backroom. Just look at the flip-flops. Next election - isn't it time for someone to make it right for Ontarians? When you vote for 1 of the "big 3" aren't you just getting the same thing – with a slightly different colour of shirt? Something to think about.
