Political Upheaval In The United Kingdom Over Migrant Crisis

Recently, I’ve have had the chance to watch what’s happening from within the United Kingdom in terms of the seismic political shift. My perspective is personal. I was a military “brat” in Europe from 1981-86 visiting the UK often. I spent time in the UK during law school with a summer course at a British Inn of Court. I served with the British military from 2007-08 in Helmand, Afghanistan as the senior US military adviser in the UK controlled province.

What I see now in the UK political upheaval cannot be overestimated. Just the flag waiving movement across the country in defiance of catastrophic migrant policy is huge. As described in Politico: “An online campaign — #OperationRaisetheColours — has prompted a guerrilla movement that has seen St. George’s Cross and Union Jack flags hung from hundreds of lampposts in towns and cities across the country. Red crosses have been painted on white mini-roundabouts, and flyovers along some of Britain’s main arterial routes have been adorned. It’s a striking development in a country where flag-flying is usually reserved for special occasions.” (Politico, Aug. 29, 2025)

Previous progressive gaslighting and censorship immigration policy is crashing down. This is destined to become a new political order.

First, migrant problems in the UK go back a long way. UK Labor Prime Minister Tony Blair exponentially ramped up immigration in 1997, yet the catastrophic effects were generally hidden from the public and censored from debate. Media and progressive politicians stigmatized criticism as being “racist” or “xenophobic”. “Diversity is the UK’s strength” became a new catchphrase. We now know that the Pakistani Muslim rape gang scandal started during this era.

Pakistani gangs were grooming then raping young English girls, while police, media, and progressive bureaucrats suppressed the stories and stigmatized the victims. This suppression came from a progressive perception that exposing migrant problems could cause racial discord. The English white working class began to face the greatest discrimination and economic downturn of the failed policies but had to shut up. Last summer, shortly after the exposure of the Pakistani rape gang scandal, protests exploded across England. The spark was when eleven little English girls were brutally stabbed (three, ages 6, 7, 9, were killed) at a girls’ dance class in Southport.

The killer was the son of Rwandan migrants (found with al Qaeda material). At this time, England was a powder keg with other revelations about migrant policy. To end the migrant protests, UK Police under Labor actively targeted the social media of those who openly disagreed with immigration policy. As a result, hundreds were arrested, including young mother, Lucy Connolly, sentenced to 31 months in prison.

This year’s protests were Déjà vu to what happened in 2024. In the English working-class town of Epping, migrant asylum seekers were housed in a local hotel for free. A 41-year-old Ethiopian Migrant (allegedly) sexually assaulted an English girl. Note: Rape in the UK went from 16,000 in 2012/13 to over 76,000 in 2025 with the Migrant policy. 

From the UK’s Daily mail describing the backlash and police attacks on speech: “Over the weekend, angry crowds have gathered in Norwich, Leeds, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Southampton and Nottinghamshire--with counter-protesters fighting back by insisting 'refugees are welcome'. In a bid to combat the growing anti-migrant sentiment, an elite division of police officers will be assembled to monitor social media for signs of civil unrest--a move which critics argue is controlling free speech…. The new police division… will aim to 'maximise social media intelligence'…… critics say the social media crackdown is 'disturbing' and raises concerns for free speech. Chris Philp, the shadow home secretary, told The Telegraph: 'Two-tier Keir can't police the streets, so he's trying to police opinions instead. They're setting up a central team to monitor what you post, what you share, what you think...'… (Daily Mail, July 27, 2025)

As part of the political upheaval, the new Reform Party is leading in the polls

As part of the political upheaval, the new Reform Party is leading in the polls. Reform Party leader, Nigel Farage, has promised to take Trump level action on the migrant problem. According to the BBC “Reform UK has suggested it would be prepared to deport 600,000 migrants over five years if it won power at the next election. Leader Nigel Farage said his party would bar anyone who comes to the UK on small boats from claiming asylum, under plans announced earlier.” (BBC, July 26, 2025)

As expected, the progressive elites in UK media and government showed their condescension of Reform and Farage, but things are different than before. First, Reform is now the leading party in the polls. Second, the exposure of the failure of UK migrant policy and the coordination between those opposed is unstoppable. Now, even socialist Labor PM Keir Starmer is having to do what Biden and Harris did during the 2024 election; pretend he will crack down on illegal migration.

The progressives in the UK, like those in the US in 2024, are forced to acknowledge the problem. Reform seems destined to win in the next election and crack down. The British bequeathed to Americans values we treasure, including our common law, Christianity, and individual rights (like free speech.

We should pray God would bless the British taking back power to the people and saving their storied culture. That they would be blessed with a Christian revival while moving to this new political order.
