We have three months to regroup after Boehner and McConnell’s capitulation to the President’s use of extortion to get his way

Propaganda blitz

Now that the propaganda assault on freedom-loving citizens has let up a bit, it’s time to set aside the blame game and get back to trying to cure the big-governmentitis that affects so many people of our nation. Isn't it time we re-evaluate those things that require so much money being sent to a centralized bureaucracy in Washington? 17 trillion dollars in debt and everyone back to work, the federal government is back in business finding ways to increase the national debt ever more rapidly.
It may be consolation to some that the rate of increase of the national debt has slowed down from the unprecedented levels of the earlier days of the Obama administration. But that torrid pace of spending was established when Democrats were a majority in both houses of Congress, obediently passing everything our Democrat president wanted. Now the Democrats are confident that after the 2014 election they can have control of all three branches of the federal government and get back to spending levels unhindered by the American citizenry. They figure the demonization of those wanting responsible government has done permanent damage, allowing the relentless drive to control more of Americans' lives from Washington to continue. But the recent propaganda blitz against citizens wanting responsible government shows us just how dangerous it is to have so much power centralized in a few hands. Do we really want to be led by those who abandon independent thinking to follow a party line dedicated to getting more power centralized in Washington, DC?

The President smugly goes on thinking that the rebellious citizenry have learned their lesson and will now think twice about standing up to his directives. But I believe that emerging from the drama of the "shutdown" showdown we can strengthen our resolve to stop this headlong course toward tyranny. Rather than repeating ad nauseum the establishment Republican internecine attack line that Senator Cruz and company should have handled the Continuing Resolution (CR) debate differently, how about uniting against a common political opponent by determining the positive things that were accomplished during the partial shutdown? We can build on the disgust of people over the fascist barricading of national sites, particularly those honoring our veterans. It is important to emphasize that the only thing the Obama administration can do in a crisis is to try and advance their ideological agenda rather than unite the nation to solve the problem at hand. The shutdown was not a distraction from discussion on the debt ceiling and the rolling out of the online exchanges for Obamacare. Rather, both the increase in the debt ceiling and the utter failure of the administration’s website for signing up for exchanges highlighted the need to stand up to President Obama’s non-negotiation approach to federal spending. So there are lessons to be learned for the next CR and debt ceiling deadlines on January 15 and February 7, respectively. One is that Speaker of the House John Boehner showed his duplicity, uniting Republicans to oppose the “clean” CR, then joining with Democrats a few weeks later to increase the debt ceiling and support their version of the CR. It also showed that the President is willing to unnecessarily put the nation into default and create an international economic crisis if he doesn’t get his way on spending. We now have a little over three months to regroup after Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s capitulation to the President’s use of extortion to get his way.
