Raise gas taxes? Gov. Shameless



Pittsburgh Live Opinion Fast on the heels of news that Gov. Ed Rendell and his legislative accomplices have further indebted our children and grandchildren by raising Pennsylvania's debt ceiling by $600 million -- to create nothing less than a slush fund for their pet projects -- Edward the Fast wants to stick it to every Pennsylvanian some more.

Yes, Mr. Rendell wants to raise gasoline taxes. From 31.2 cents on the gallon to 34.45 cents. That would make it the sixth-highest in the nation. To pay for transportation projects. What, Governor, the commonwealth's economy isn't struggling enough already that you have to molest it some more? The governor says the tax hike is necessary to offset the federal government's rejection of tolls for Interstate 80. What a crock. The state repeatedly sought such permission knowing full well that it violated the law and wouldn't happen. Whole budgets were predicated on the phantom money. Then officials feign shock and dismay that feds won't aid and abet their scheme. More...
