On June 25, 2011, motorcycle enthusiasts are invited to change the lives of Canadians with disabilities by participating in the first annual Ride for Dog Guides. The Ride consists of a poker run between Oakville and Breslau, Ontario. Registration for the Ride opens at 10 a.m. at Lions Foundation of Canada (152 Wilson Street) in Oakville. Participants are encouraged to form teams with other riders and raise donations for Dog Guides. A minimum of $25 in donations is required to participate. ABOUT LIONS FOUNDATION OF CANADA DOG GUIDES

Since 1983, Lions Foundation of Canada has provided specially trained Dog Guides at no cost to people of all ages from coast to coast. Each Dog Guide costs approximately $20,000 to raise and train yet they are provided at no cost to qualified applicants. Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides does not receive any government funding and relies on the support of fundraising events and donations from service clubs, corporations, foundations, individuals across the country to continue its success. The Foundation trains five different types of Dog Guides:
  • Canine Vision Dog Guides – for people who are blind or visually impaired.
  • Hearing Ear Dog Guides – for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Special Skills Dog Guides – for people with a medical or physical disability.
  • Seizure Response Dog Guides – for people with epilepsy.
  • Autism Assistance Dog Guides – for children with autism.
