imageBangladeshi journalist Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury has been honoured as the recipient of the 2007 Monaco Media Forum’s Media Award for Courage in Journalism.

A proud Choudhury will receive the award in person from Prince Albert II in Monaco on November 9.

Small in stature, large in heart, Choudhury fights radical Islam with his pen even after his 17-month long arrest and torture after exposing the rise of Islamists in Bangladesh.

.

Editor of the English language newspaper, The Weekly Blitz (also available internationally on-line), he describes his publication as “the only Zionist newspaper in the Moslem world”.

Choudhury was in Washington, D.C. with his “brother” Professor Richard L. Benkin, when he received the happy news that he would be able to travel to Monaco to pick up his award.

American professor and Jewish activist, Dr. Richard Benkin fought tirelessly to free him, securing his release from prison in 2005.  His struggle for Shoaib and interfaith understanding continues to this day.

The plucky Bangladeshi journalist and peace activist has already been honoured with the Moral Courage award 2006, American Jewish Committee; the Courageous Journalism Award 2006, Bangladesh Minority Lawyer’s Association; the Freedom to Write Award 2005, PEN USA and the Courageous Journalism Award 2005, Bangladesh Lokgeeti Shipi Goshthi.

None of the awards could turn the head of Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, who has always been distinguished by being his own man.

“There is so much work to be done”, Choudhury told Canada Free Press from a Washington, DC hotel early this morning, in reference to his advocating interfaith understanding and warming about international terrorism.
