Save the Environment...from Deadly Lettuce

ISIS will not be amused.  First, President Barack Obama and Pope Francis have given the inherent danger of their terrorism the heave-ho by declaring that global warming/climate change is a bigger threat to 21st century humanity—and now global warming doctrine dares to suggest that bacon is better for the environment than run-of-the-mill lettuce.

All pork products, including bacon, are anathema to any self-respecting Islamic terrorist.

.

So anathematic, in fact, that some brave souls who dare take a stand against Islamic terrorism use pork grease as a Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD).

In a world where environment activist governments are banning all fossil-fuel driven lifestyle comforts, like heat and light, lettuce and vegetables could now be on the ever-expanding environmental hit list.

Will Mothers who always told their children, “Eat your veggies, or no dessert”, now tell them “Eat your bacon, or no pit stops stops for ice cream”?

“Are vegetarians to blame for climate change?” Britain’s Daily Mail dares to ask.

“Researchers find lettuce is “three times worse than BACON for emissions. (Daily Mail, Dec. 15, 2015)

“A study from Carnegie Mellon University has found that many common vegetables require more resources per calorie, and produce higher greenhouse gas emissions than some types of meat.

“While lowering the weight of the general population has been shown to positively affect the environment, the researchers found that healthy eating leads to a higher environmental impact.

“The study examined the impact of food from growing, processing and transporting, to food sales, service, and household storage, according to Carnegie Mellon.
Researchers also measured the changes in energy use, blue water footprint, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.”

“Blue water footprint”?  Do the Hawaii-bound Obamas know about this?

“Eating lettuce is over three time worse in greenhouse gas emissions than eating bacon,’ said Paul Fishbeck, professor of social and decisions sciences and engineering and public policy. (Daily Mail)

‘Lots of common vegetables require more resources per calorie than you would think. Eggplant, celery, and cucumbers look particularly bad when compared to pork or chicken.’

“Michelle Tom, a Ph.D student in civil and environmental engineering and Chris Hendrickson, the Hamerschlag University Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering examined the food supply chain to understand the relationship between obesity in the U.S. and the environment.”

Forget about “that” Michelle.  Because it’s “another Michelle” this latest news might drive out of business (Oh, joy!)

Who ever knew that the skimpy, lettuce-strewn menu Michelle Obama’ been forcing on school cafeteria lunches was bad not just for the hungry students—but for the entire environment?

Who knows? Maybe every bit as bad or even worse than the bad-for-environment flatulence from cows in farmer’s fields?

Did folk, like her hubby, Obama, know this when they blamed fossil fuels for everything gone wrong in the environment when they were in Paris for COP21?

If the researchers at Carnegie Mellon are right, it may be time for Greenpeace to change its signage from ‘Save the Whales’ to ‘Save the Environment…from Deadly Lettuce’.

Meanwhile, just like the bombs of ISIS we only imagine we can hear from a group that Barack and Francis claim don’t really exist, we may soon not hear the dinner table crunch of someone chowing down on what we all thought was healthy lettuce.

The enviro police could be coming soon to a house near you,  if only because they’ve zapped everything else considered a danger to the environment.
