Short lived boosts to the employment figures; Don’t be fooled by the hype

Gifting planes and tanks to Egypt, Superstorm Sandy, holiday season

Personal income is up. Well, let's see. In order avoid the unknown tax situation that would happen in 2013, major companies gave dividends and bonuses at the end of 2012. Then, too, it was the holiday season with temporary jobs in malls and retail establishments across the land. And there was the lavish amount of money spent on the election and the jobs generated by that extravaganza. Of course there were the extra jobs created by the rebuilding after Superstorm Sandy.

And the planes and tanks we gifted Egypt certainly resulted in a few jobs. But these were short lived boosts to the employment figures. Perhaps some of those fleeting employment opportunities will be replaced by the hiring on of folks for the 159 new agencies needed to administer Obamacare. And I do see great potential for employment in the weapons and ammunition manufacturing sectors. There should be a spike in openings in the repo and tow truck business. It's a wash in the green energy field where new loans will likely replace the jobs lost by defunct green energy companies. The people reporting these completely bogus numbers won't tell you they are based on half truths, manipulated data and creative writing. It's up to you to look around. Is your personal income up? Are your neighbors or your co-workers making more money? No? I thought not. Don't be fooled by the hype. Jean Arcamone
