Show of unity
Yankees/Red Sox
Being a Massachusetts born, New England raised, Red Sox fan, I'd like to express my appreciation for the show of unity demonstrated by the Yankees and their fans in the playing of the Red Sox theme song at the game following the terror attack in Boston.
It was a class act and said to the nation, "We are Americans first, Yankees second" (as it should be).
It sent a message to young sports players around the country about sportsmanship.
At a time when we are divided by politics, race, and income level and at a time when emotions are running high and tempers may have a hair trigger, the simple example of compassion was a breath of fresh air.
The people in the stands, the Yankee front office and the players deserve our acknowledgement for doing the right thing. The finest compliment we could pay them is to emulate them.
