Bumble-headed bureaucrats, National Commission on Surface Transportation Infrastructure Financing

Some think this a good time to raise gas tax.

A very short time ago about when the conservatives were pushing the liberals to allow more domestic drilling for oil and the crashes of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac the price for a gallon of gas at the pumps started to fall. From record highs of $4.25 to current lows in the $1.50 range we watched with great delight as it fell.

Slowly but surely since that first drop in price was recorded many things on the marketplace began to return to more sensible, livable and affordable levels. We are not down to the pre-price increases level, or less than a dollar a gallon, but we’re getting closer and apparently this is causing much agita among our government politicos and persons who should know better. Some, who can’t see the silver lining in the lower gas prices at the pump are doomed to start acting like the tax-loving liberal Democrats that they really are. Already they’re calling for an increase in the federal gas tax from 18 cents a gallon to at least 24 cents. And for what? They claim that the high cost of gas has caused less purchases of gasoline with the resultant decrease in dollars being made available for roads, bridges and other transportation infrastructure items. Their answer to their problem: Increase gas taxes to produce more revenue for them to disperse around the country for new transportation programs. And it has been said that they would like to see us pay at least $3.50 a gallon for gasoline so that we would be more motivated to drive less and drive smaller more fuel efficient vehicles. What sort of left-wing liberal leadership is that? In other words, we should be punishing ourselves for wanting to return to the normalcy of a year or so ago, just so they can look like angels redistributing the wealth. Here we go again thanks to Obama. Our liberal Democrat, tax-happy Congress has created a panel called the National Commission on Surface Transportation Infrastructure Financing, (NCSTIF), a propitious sounding, and like their union card-check legislation using the words ‘employee free choice’ when it is anything but, this is just one more way for liberals to separate the average person from his or her tax dollars. Some of the letters in the acronym are very appropriate, (STIF) as that is what they will do to we gas users. The flawed reasoning from the bumble-headed bureaucrats mentioned above regarding paying $3.50 a gallon is to be expected from any such group assembled by this money-gouging Congress. I would be willing to wager a bob or two that not one of this newest liberal brain trust entity would have come across the idea that if they could lower the gas prices a bit more, perhaps a more normal return to driving would result and the dollars from the 18 cents a gallon federal tax would increase appreciably. But then, they also want us to drive smaller and more fuel efficient vehicles, so a gallon would go farther and it would also cut into the feds share of your bucks. Catch 22? Yeah, somewhat. But in lieu of our current economical mess, heavily contributed to by a worthless Congress consisting of two spendthrift political parties and some high-jacking of financial favors by the Congressional finance committee leaders in recent years along with our expensive socialistic world new order programs and big tax minded new El Presidente, someone ought to be thinking about the ones that pay the freight; also known as the taxpayers. If the big spenders would start to drill for our own domestic oil we could solve both problems of high gas costs and more funds for transportation programs. But that may be at cross purposes to the eggheads on the NCSTIF who just want to be normal liberal Democrats and raise your taxes. How many Congress members does it take to change a light bulb? Just one to hold the bulb while the other 534 bright-idea members lift and rotate the building. That’s the American Congressional way.
