Tariffs – Rules of Engagement

What has become blaringly obvious is that this Liberal government didn’t learn anything from the last Trump administration. Trump told the world, last time he was in office, that you never tell the other side what you’re going to do until you already have everything lined up and it’s a “go.”

Purported “green economy” and/or the “green transition” is no plan. If it was such a good plan why are other nations NOT doing it

This Liberal government just can’t seem to keep anything quiet, in their drive to look as if they are doing something. They don’t even have a plan, per say, to do anything for the Canadian economy but to try and push through a very failed “green economy.” With the Liberal government, including all of their Ministers/MPs out there crowing about the retaliatory tariffs, that’s all they seem to have. It didn’t take 3 weeks to come up with that, or maybe it did, as it seems they really don’t have a plan.

This purported “green economy” and/or the “green transition” is no plan. If it was such a good plan why are other nations NOT doing it. Our Liberal Prime Minister was, again, over in the EU making announcements that AI must be powered by “renewable” and/or “green.” Even China, for all of its bluster still purchases coal from the U.S. so how green is it? Remember in 2013, the Liberal Prime Minister stated his “… level of admiration I actually have for China because their basic dictatorship is allowing them to actually turn their economy around on a dime and say, ‘We need to go green … we need to start investing in solar.’”^[1] Perhaps, with this tariff war, the Liberals think they have that “dictatorship” or at least they’re trying to. No concern for the average Canadian and just look at how China treats its people. Now that’s the ideology we are dealing with.

Failed Green Economy--Foolish, biased, elitist government with all of their “pomp” and chest puffing truly harming Canadians

The “green economy” has failed and failed and it's these foolish, biased, elitist governments with all of their “pomp” and chest puffing that is harming the everyday Canadian. Again, I will remind Canadians of what happened in Ontario with the McGuinty/Wynne Liberals that took us to the brink of bankruptcy with their “green economy” and the push for the “green electricity Act.”

But now we find out, that because of this Liberal federal government’s ideological biasness against Canadian clean oil and gas, and with the passing of Bill C-69--the kill all pipelines Act--our economy has been failed by this government to the tone of Billions. It’s as if Canadians have been paying a 20 to 22% tariff, in Canada, because of internal trade barriers. With the federal government not allowing oil and gas pipelines we are completely as the mercy of the U.S. How foolish can any government get? Now they’re talking about putting in electricity grids instead of pipelines…again completely off the mark and does nothing for this Nation. As expressed by Stephan Poloz on Question Period (See footnotes), one reason for the creation of the Dominion of Canada, (BNA 1867) was because of trade threats with the U.S. This was so we would have a free trade zone “east and west” to save Canada from reliance on U.S. trade.

Former Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz, laid it out quite succinctly. What he said was that with the U.S. tariffs, being implemented, every Canadian will take a “permanent pay cut of 2%” – BUT if our foolish government implements “retaliatory tariffs”, “every Canadian will take a permanent pay cut of 5%.”

Liberal’s plan is to only implement retaliatory tariffs, and “transition” to what they call a “green economy” to the complete detriment of Canadians

2% pay cut is harsh enough but 5% is completely unaffordable. These retaliatory tariffs have nothing to do with showing the U.S. we can take them on. It’s merely for our politicians to “pound their chests” looking like they’re doing something--when in fact this is merely bankrupting the country. For these politicians to tell Canadians there may be some “pain” is ridiculous and it’s because the politicians won’t feel that pain--just everyday Canadians.

With this federal government not having started anything; no construction has started; no real agreements between the provinces; nothing concrete has been even done other than a purported Canada/U.S. summit that was “invitation only,” and yet the government is telling the Americans what this government’s wee non-pipeline dream is. The U.S. is looking at Canada like the wolf looking at the lamb. The Liberal’s plan is to only implement retaliatory tariffs, and try to do a “transition” to what they call a “green economy” to the complete detriment of Canadians.

Guess no one ever told these Liberals that “pride cometh before the fall” and that’s where we’re headed if they keep on with the chest puffing/pounding “retaliatory tariffs” and their unsustainable “green transition,” that has always failed.

And what is the plan for Canadians by this government? A 5% permanent pay cut for all Canadians if the Liberals continue doing what they are doing.

Tariffs--the rules of engagement are--keep your mouth shut until you actually have a plan and can implement said plan…Obviously there is no plan or they wouldn’t be making all of these “suggestions” showing the U.S. what we “might do.”
