Term Limits

The Founding Fathers put us on the right track with the Constitution. Over time the elected institutions have been corrupted by self-serving politicians who have feathered their nest and created one of the best cash cows to ever exist

Here we go again. Another term limit amendment bill has been purposed for the 119th Congress to consider. I will put Johnny Carson’s Karnack turban on and make a prediction on just how far it will go in the uniparty swamp that is Washington, DC. I predict it will get no more traction than such a bill has had in the past. Nowhere! It will end up in the muck that is the bottom of the D.C. swamp as have all previous attempts to establish term limits. Historically, once again the politicians can safely say they tried. Frankly, I’m okay with that outcome and here’s why..

Money, Money, Money

"One great error is that we suppose mankind more honest than they are."--  Alexander Hamilton

The proposal that has been put forward does not solve the fundamental problem that is the Black Plague of the American election system. Money! Any term limit system that allows for more than a single term in any office retains the major flaw of massive corruption. Rumor has it that more than a billion dollars was spent trying to get Kamala Harris elected to the presidency in 2024. True or not, certainly hundreds of millions of dollars were spent by the world domination oligarchs who were trying to maintain control of the United States government through the White House and Congress.

I wish I had a solution to the reality that some human beings are willing to buy politicians and some politicians are willing to be bought. Sadly, I don’t see human nature changing. To buy someone’s influence and to be bought requires money, directly or indirectly. Direct payment is easiest but has a downside of being the easiest to detect and to prosecute both the buyer and the bought. The most popular and hardest to prosecute is the funding of a politician’s election or more important reelection campaign. There are so many holes in this process that hardly anyone is ever prosecuted for wrong doing. The result is that politicians are purchased time after time after time, thus the career, professional politician’s whole life is spent serving his owners and not his/her constituents.

Back to Basics

"We have staked the whole future of our new nation, not upon the power of government; far from it. We have staked the future of all our political constitutions upon the capacity of each of ourselves to govern ourselves according to the moral principles of the Ten Commandments." ~ James Madison

It is important that America get back to the basics of the Constitution and what the Founding Fathers intended and expressed in the Federal Papers. The founding generation did not intend for a ruling class of professional politicians to evolve. They didn’t want a ruling class of any sort. The intent was that ordinary citizens would serve a short time in Congress and return to their normal life. This system is a system where the election officials actually have skin in the game. This type of elected official would be acutely aware of what is happening in his/her local community which would then influence everything the federal government did, as intended by the Founding Fathers. Common sense would return to Washington, DC.

"Our Constitution represents the work of the finger of Almighty God." ~ James Madison

Reduce the opportunity for corruption

"Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom." ~ Benjamin Franklin

Term limits that depend on an educated electorate have failed miserably in America. Incumbency is nearly a sure thing for reelection, especially when corrupt advertising dollars are nearly unlimited through the current election funding system. To correct this major flaw in the system, we must take reelection off the table. Each federal elected official must be limited to one and only one term in in each branch of the federal government.

United States House of Representatives

Each member of the House of Representative will be elected to and serve only one four year term.

United States Senate

Upon the repeal of the 17th Amendment to the United States Constitution, each member of the Senate will be elected by their state legislature to only one six year term.

President of the United States

Upon the repeal of the 22nd Amendment to the United States Constitution, the President will serve only one eight year term.

Are these perfect solutions?

"One great error is that we suppose mankind more honest than they are." -- Alexander Hamilton

I wish they were! However, the reality is that the solution is in the hearts of men and women who choose to serve their nation and God. All we can hope for is to reduce the temptation for corruption and limit the opportunities as best we can.

The Founding Fathers put us on the right track with the Constitution. Over time the elected institutions have been corrupted by self-serving politicians who have feathered their nest and created one of the best cash cows to ever exist. Sadly, they are unlikely to change the system.

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” --1Timothy 6:10 NKJV
