April 15, 2012, the Ordre des médecins vétérinaires du Québec (OMVQ ) was concerned about cuts in federal food inspection.

The press release denounced the layoff of hundreds of inspectors at the Canadian Food Inspection by the federal government. The organization was afraid that other crisis such as the 2008 listeriosis occurs. Fortunately, members of the Inspection Service of the U.S. Food and Drug Authority were able to detect the presence of E. coli in meat from Alberta XL Foods plant on September 3. If OMVQ has bee listen to, the largest food recall in Canadian history might have been avoided. In present time, it is the United States that prevents Canadians from being poisoned!
