Our Constitution is one of the singularly most abused written declarations to be found

The Double Helix

The Constitution is the keel of this ship of state we call America. And, it’s under attack (as always seems to be the case) by people thinking they’re so much more intelligent than the masters created it in the first place. These people work like wood borers, sticking their noses into every nook and cranny to exploit a perceived weakness that wouldn’t be there if they hadn’t started nosing around in the first place. These people gain strength and notoriety for their presence, and because they’re recognized as being there, they think they’re appreciated.

Not so. A Washington Post staff writer, said the Constitution is textually “confusing”; that it differs in its interpretation and meaning from person to person. So if it’s so confusing and suggests different things from one person to the next, in whom should we place our trust to tell us what it means: Lawyers, Judges, Representatives, Senators, Presidents, Washington Post staff writers? Would you ask the fox to design your hen house? Are people like this writer intelligent and articulate enough to rival revolutionary wisdom? Can they debate the matter with a Jefferson, a Madison, a Franklin or a Washington? Those men knew the dangers of their age. They knew their greatest aspirations and hopes for their progeny. They knew the problems of that age could return. Governance can become tyrannical domination if not careful. Our Constitution is one of the singularly most abused written declarations to be found. To some it’s considered malleable, pliant, moldable and plastic. But, its tensile strength is enough to maintain its recuperative resilience – so far. Because it’s always bounced back, they think it always will. People believing they’re smarter than their fellows seek to be the defining elements ultimately directing the freedoms enjoyed by men. They try developing their vision for the future.

Constitution doesn’t simply define freedoms. It delineates responsibilities

But, the Constitution doesn’t simply define freedoms. It delineates responsibilities. It creates boundaries we dare not cross lest we strip rights and freedoms from our brothers and sisters. One man’s right to freedom of speech ends at the other man’s ear if that man is so inclined to disagree. One of the main things found to be so unreasonable about Constitutional Reconstructionists is they try to do the same thing Secular Humanists try to accomplish: climb to the Olympian Height and displace Zeus from his throne. They try doing this with logic and reason in a purely egotistical manner and on a level only they evaluate as being worthy of acceptance. Educational credentials supplant and displace faith. Man proclaims his own divinity and tries to enforce his edict by getting everybody to accept his logic alone. Simplistically stated; it’s believed you can give a guy a college education and he thinks he can do better than everybody that came before him. It ain’t necessarily so. The question arises: if the Constitution, as written, is so hard to understand, why have we kept it around so long? And, if we’re so stupid as to not be able to understand the Constitution now; how can we hope to be intelligent enough to repair, redact or replace it? The answer is simple: you can only accomplish this if your ego says you can. This leads to the other side of the equation; I have rights too and I’ll fight to preserve them from being overridden by self-righteous theorists.

The Constitution’s a document, a statement of ideals and beliefs, It’s in essence the DNA of America

The Constitution’s a document, a statement of ideals and beliefs. Its language is compelling, then instructive. It’s in essence the DNA of America, the place where the double helix of ideals and practicality came into contact and started the serpentine dance creating the backbone of American Republican Democracy. It can’t be removed, redacted or replaced. This document is the spiritual GPS leading us to our future by the preservation of our historic values and locking in their placement in our psyche as valid and inviolable. It means what it says and it says what it means. All other laws are to be tested against what’s said in that document. Everything else is descendant. You can’t change your ancestors and you can’t change the results of association on that double helix. Thanks for listening
