The Gaslighting of Americans

The Gaslighting of AmericansThe term "gaslighting" has become very popular these days.  As a licensed mental health counselor, I hear the term gaslighting most often in discussions with clients who find themselves in close or intimate relationships with narcissists.  Everything a narcissist does is about power, control, and self-aggrandizement. Narcissists are true masters of gaslighting, and they can and will tell a bald-faced lie with an absolutely straight face.  Not only do narcissists blatantly tell lies, but they also adamantly deny they ever said or did something even if you can prove they said or did it via a video or audio recording.  By now, I think you are beginning to see where I'm going with this discussion.

America isn't just suffering from a lack of patriotic and honorable leadership

America isn't just suffering from a lack of patriotic and honorable leadership.  We are also struggling daily "to make sense" of what our current leaders are saying and doing based on our Judeo-Christian values coupled with critical thinking skills.  Our biggest mistake is forgetting that we can only engage in critical thinking when we have all the facts (not outright lies, half-truths, or complete omissions) provided by patriotic and trustworthy leaders.  I believe many Americans know or sense that "something is not right" under the Biden Administration, but they don't know how to personally respond to what they are see and hear through the media.  I believe that if we Americans keep trying to make sense of what we are seeing and hearing from our elected and appointed "leaders" in Washington, D.C., we are going to literally drive ourselves crazy, or at least into deep despair.  This is because the words of many of our current elected leaders, starting with President Biden, do not match their actions.  Whether you are dealing with a federal, state, or local politician (or a narcissist in your personal life), always pay attention to what they do, not what they say.  The old adage that "actions speak louder than words" is a truism we can count on.  Americans are being "gaslighted" multiple times each day.

Gaslighting not only involves lying with impunity, but it also involves the psychological defense mechanism of projection

Gaslighting not only involves lying with impunity, but it also involves the psychological defense mechanism of projection.  Projection occurs when another person (i.e., a gaslighter ) accuses you of some misconduct, incorrect thought, or negative personality trait they have engaged in (like lying, cheating, etc.), thereby causing you to defend yourself and become distracted from their behavior.  This is one reason it is very difficult, if not impossible, to have a constructive conversation with a Marxist Democrat.  The facts don't matter to them.  The only thing that matters to a Marxist (or a narcissist) is that you feel diminished, weak, and afraid.

Saul Alinsky's 12 Rules for Radicals

Saul Alinsky's 12 Rules for Radicals was published by Random House in 1971.  The fact that Alinsky dedicated the book to Lucifer (Satan) pretty much tells you what the book is about – total power and control over others.    Rule #12 states, "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."  Alinsky goes on to say that it is more effective to go after people than institutions because people can be hurt more quickly.  In other words, personalized criticism and ridicule works faster with people than with institutions.  Hillary Clinton was a great admirer of Alinsky's 12 Rules for Radicals.  I believe it was Rule #12 that she was invoking during a campaign speech on September 9, 2016, when she said "half" of Trump supporters fit into "a basket of deplorables."   I find it disturbing that so many liberals feel perfectly justified in lumping those they don't agree with politically (and hence, do not like or respect) into broad categories like racists, xenophobes, homophobes, etc. This not only smacks of elitism, but also of intolerance and bias.  I think Clinton and other hardcore Democrats believe personalized criticism and ridicule of fellow Americans is an effective and worthwhile campaign tactic because they know that Republicans, in general, and Christian conservatives, in particular, are very hesitant to call them out.  Name calling and personal attacks on individuals, such as political opponents, have not traditionally been part of the Republicans' campaign strategy, but it is time for the GOP to rethink that.  If narcissists, bullies, and liars are not confronted, they are only emboldened.

Marxists and narcissists share the same strategy to achieve their goals

Marxists and narcissists share the same strategy to achieve their goals.  They wear you down slowly over time.  It's like the frog in the boiling water analogy.  The heat is turned up gradually, so the frog never realizes what is actually happening.  However, when something unexpected or potentially damaging to their plan occurs, both the Marxist and the narcissist will initially attempt to distract you, perhaps by offering a reassuring speech or kind word, but if that doesn't work, they will start to disparage your character in some way, possibly even telling your friends you're "a threat to democracy."  They know that confused people are weak.  The more confused a person is, the less likely that person is to be able to formulate a plan of action of any type.

In order to choose life, we must walk in the Light of Truth and shun the Darkness of Evil

To my fellow Americans and Canadian friends, do not allow yourself to be confused about the difference between good and evil, life and death, or freedom and tyranny.  We live in a point in time where many of us are going to have to find the courage to stand up for what we know is good and right, life-giving, and freedom-preserving just as the truckers in Canada and America did a few short months ago and now like the farmers in The Netherlands are doing.   In Moses farewell address to the Israelites, he said, "I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live." (Deut. 30:19-20) In order to choose life, we must walk in the Light of Truth and shun the Darkness of Evil.
"You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending."   ⁓ C.S. Lewis
