The ‘Government-guaranteed everything’ mentality
RE: Tea Partiers are Strong Patriots
"Tea Partiers are Strong Patriots" was an excellent snapshot of who we have become as a nation.
We truly are a country that demands our government provide everything from a guaranteed wage, guaranteed education, guaranteed child support, guaranteed equal rights, guaranteed freedoms, even guaranteed cell phones if we are on welfare.
Yet it seems fewer and fewer Americans understand that with all these guarantees comes responsibilities and a hefty price tag. All the great benefits and opportunities that are available are not free. Yet, many continue to expect and even demand a free ride.
It is time those bearing the burden of supporting the demanders should make a few rules of our own. We'll give you a hand up but we are done giving you a hand out. You can participate in your own destiny. In order to receive another dime of our money you must work. If you can't find a job and we can't find one for you, you can volunteer at a shelter or do roadside clean up or help out the recreation center. These are all things we used to do before we had to work two jobs to support you.
If you are getting food stamps -- excuse me, electronic benefit transfers -- then you will only by food and essentials. Frankly, I'm tired of packing my own lunch while you buy ready made deli sandwiches.
It is well past time to make some demands of our own. Speak without fear.
