On reading the Hansard for the last few days, and chuckling at Member John Yakabuski's references to Ontario now suffering not only energy brown and black outs, but also "white" outs, I am reflecting that we do indeed have paper napkin energy plans in this Province.
The sheer volume of bad decisions on energy policy is staggering. Gas here and there, then cancelled, while teachers and doctors get whacked, and rising hydro costs keep industry, viable jobs, at bay. There is little doubt that the foray into gas plants has little to do with improving the air quality of Ontario, which is according to the air quality readings on the Provincial site, good to superior most of the time. The air quality that is noxious in Ontario comes predominately from cars and trucks and the fumes from State side. This is well known now.
What the stability of those proposed gas plants we suppose is contemplated to do is provide back up power for the relentless march of wind turbines across our most pristine land, major migration routes that are celebrated universally, vacation and respite places, and our prime agricultural land: turbines that do not produce meaningful electricity in the best of circumstances, that pollute and damage human health, livestock, birds and bats, and create eventually, actually fairly quickly, vast energy sprawl wastelands with industrial junk that cannot be recycled. (The blades are of carbon fibres and are already becoming an international junkyard problem.) However, again, failure to consult on all these energy matters has led to damage control of the highest and most expensive order.
Additionally, the lack of perspective on truly more viable energy sources such as hydro, or micro hydro, is bewildering to say the least.
There are over 140,000 wind turbines internationally, producing less than 1/2 of one percent, or net zero, power. This is a government that has hesitated to learn from Europe, and is driving us to substandard living and energy poverty, just like the UK and Spain. I do indeed find the government in contempt of the people.
Sincerely,
