The Inspiration Called Doug (“Dub”) Bronson

Meanwhile, I can’t help but wish that everyone had an inspiration like Doug and Kathrine Bronson in their lives

Kathrine and Doug

Like the human Florida hurricane that he naturally is, longtime friend Doug (“Dub”) Bronson came blowing through Canada Free Press lockdown worries about social media suppression a few nights ago, blowing all CFP worries out to the nearest sea.

Dub and his late wife Debbie are former CFP columnists starting back on Jan. 17, 2011 with some 400 columns called 'Ridin Out The Recession With Dub and Deb in “Miz Judi’s Kitchen'!”, still viewable on CFP archives.

Dub, now working with Conservative pal Robert Ellsworth on starting a Blog Talk Radio podcast, is a businessman/ Happy Camper  in his beloved State of sun splashed Florida—home of some of the most colorful character patriots in the ‘Fight to Save America’.

For CFP and many other Conservative/Christian news sites, it’s been rough staying online in current social media suppression, and there are days when we find ourselves wondering who, if any, are still finding us online.

So, here we were worried about new problems with a comment section, suddenly keeping all CFP commenters from being able to post comments when Doug emailed to ask: “Whaz up?”

We were particularly worried about the loyal trio of Totsy, John M, and Butch in Florida not being able to post comments any more.  Tekkie Brian being too busy trying to find a way to get us back to Disqus couldn’t get back to them with any kind of an SOS “hold-on” message.

Without our knowing it, Dub had already come to the rescue, having always stayed in touch with the readers of his and wife Debbie’s ‘Ridin’ Out The Recession’ columns.

Dub, who believes in Readers Digest advice  that “Laughter is the Best Medicine”, spikes all of his messages with the kind of humor that would leave even the gloomiest among us,  in much-needed belly laughter.

Now remarried to spunky wife Kathrine, Dub holds steadfast to the motto his late wife Debbie taught him: “Always keep a smile on your face and one in your heart”.

In order to get to her deer tree stand near their home in central Florida,  ‘Mrs. Dub’, in her 70s, walks three-quarters of a mile with a 50-lb backpack, rifle and gear on her back.

Then with driven-in railway spikes, used as a contrived ladder, climbs up with her gear, rifle and backpack.

After hunting season, she comes home just long enough to change out of her hunting gear, and into her fishing gear, then it's off to her second home on Little Gasparilla Island to wet a hook, staying sometimes, months at a time.

Dub, who no longer hunts, but loves to watch and feed the wildlife is asked by acquaintances, "Dub, you don't hunt anymore?"

His reply, "Not unless I want to see Kathrine, then I gotta’ hunt her!"

At her island home on Little Gasparilla, there are no stores, so that everything has to be packed up and brought by boat to the island.

It was Kathrine who pulled Dub out of despondency after Debbie’s death when we were all so worried about him.

Debbie, Dub, Kathrine, who had lost her husband Ronnie five years before, were all close friends at the time when Debbie fell ill.

Kathrine and Dub were friends who left Lonely Ville by tying the knot.

Says Dub about their marriage: “It wasn’t something that either of us were lookin' for, another spouse or partner, her especially, shoot, Kathrine had never even dated anyone else after losin' Ronnie (whom Deb had nicknamed “Turtle”), but something that actually we both feel very strongly about now, that was God given to us, an opportunity for both of us to be happy again with someone in our lives, while still in… “the world.”

Many CFP readers kept in touch with Dub during the indescribable grief that followed Debbie’s death on June 14th, 2012.

The almost palpable sadness of Debbie’s passing struck home when Dub wrote in his last column: “Life with Deb was so much fun!

We literally thought…it would never end!

Yet…it did.”

It was Deb, who taught Dub that in this life, it is God that matters most.

But Dub’s always been a big  part of CFP through his continuing friendship,  because his friendships are always for keeps.

CFP is not big or mighty enough to have a board of directors, but if it did, Doug Bronson would be its chairman.

Dub,  who’s been through many personal sorrows over the past nine years, including the death of his wife and mother, is an inspiration to everyone who knows him.

But when one window  in life closes on the unsinkable Dub, he’s soon out there looking for another.

They must have been thinking of someone like Dub when they wrote the song about picking yourself up, dusting yourself off and starting all over again.

This is one Florida farmer and rancher, who will never wipe the dust of his home state off his duds.

Dub, who is a 2nd generation farmer and rancher on his land, grew up roaming with his grandfather on his Uncle O’dells spread since he was a boy of five or six.  His son, Mark, “Red” to his family, will turn Dub’s spread into a 3rd generation enterprise.

All of the Democrats working to drive America into a thorough socialist state are no match for these passionate patriots!

In all of the horrors awaiting us between now and November 3rd, Doug Bronson, and all patriots like him, will still be standing resolute on their land, fighting to save America.

Common sense and human nature will prove that government-mandated lockdowns can’t last forever.  In fact, the state Dub and family call home under Governor Ron DeSantis, has already reopened for business.

For all longing to get back into their churches, Dub reminds us: “You may not be able to get to church—but you can still get to God Almighty through prayer.”

And praying to the Almighty through all of life’s sorrows,  is what matters most.

Find ways to make laughter replace worries during the current lockdown because as Dub reminds us: “Stress really kills!”

Dub is the kind of inspiration that can only come from a country-raised boy.

Who Dub and Kathrine really are can be seen on their faces in their picture.

Meanwhile, I can’t help but wish that everyone had an inspiration like Doug and Kathrine Bronson in their lives.
