Ideology-ego, vs. Common-sense wisdom—America’s greatest foreign policy blunder

The Obama Administration’s foreign policy in Syria

Nature abhors a vacuum and the same goes for politics and human interaction.
When considering the plight of Syria, we really need to remember what happened when NATO and America, led by President Obama and his State Department head honcho Hillary Clinton, brought down Muammar Gaddafi in Libya. In present day Libya, warring factions are killing each other, while not long ago, they fought in support of their ‘brothers in arms’. Now Libya’s factions and tribes are caught up in the ever changing fortunes of war, where circumstances force shifts in leaders, paradigms and loyalties. What happened in Libya, will happen in Syria, if the Saudis, Turks and the Obama administration successfully spur Syria’s terrorists to victory and topple Syrian President Bashir Assad. The loss of Assad will create a vacuum, and every jihadist faction in the region will rush into Syria, where the largest most powerful faction or factions will win, and immediately begin their genocide on the now helpless Syrian population. Many in the Obama Administration would have us believe that, after the terrorists oust President Assad, there won’t be internecine fighting for control of Syria, in an all-or-nothing high-stakes struggle to consolidate absolute power.

If Bashir Assad falls there will be non-stop fighting, just as were seeing in Libya today. You can bet the bank that Christians and Secular Moslems in Syria will either be killed, sold into slavery…or worse. Genocide, is a very real possibility if Syria falls under Islamic State control. We are forced to conclude the Obama Administration’s, rah-rah-lets-topple-Assad-and-never-mind-the-consequences foreign policy, is incredibly dangerous and naïve. A policy of the mindset that thinks somehow with Assad gone, all of the crazed jihadists who control Syria will somehow be malleable, or some other fantasy will magically happen, wherein dedicated crazed genocidal monsters will all of a sudden drop what they are doing, scream hallelujah; ‘I’ve done seen the light’, and everything will work out happily ever after. The fall of Syria would be historically hideous, when you think of the fall of President Assad’s Syria, just think of the fall of Rome or Carthage. Students of history know, as much as we detest Assad, he is very much like Gaddafi in Libya, in that Muammar Gaddafi was the glue holding Libya’s tribal society together. Syria is comprised of tribes too, with histories that go back thousands of years. Syria is the heart of the middle east in so many ways, but it's also a besieged country in a tinderbox region. If Assad falls, hundreds of thousands will be imprisoned or die, there will be refugees in the millions, and the Islamic State will grow in strength and spread throughout the world. That’s a nightmare. Many believe that the Obama Administration is at a loss when it comes to a strategy to deal with Assad, but more importantly unable to develop a workable over-arching strategy to increase the integrity and stability of Syria and the region. Sometimes it looks like the administration is trying to fight a war on terror. Recently we had a fortunate drone kill in Yemen, a top al Qaeda man, Bravo! However we shouldn’t get caught up in a razzle dazzle drone strike, It glorifies the scumbag terrorist too much, and it distracts our attention away from the Obama Administration. The drone strike in Yemen proves the Administration is perusing the terrorists in the middle east, yet, U.S. help for the Kurds in Syria is dangerously lacking. We can’t let that happen. The Kurds in Syria are integral to Syrian security, and safety. While not directly aligned with Syria’s Assad, we know Assad allows the Kurds great liberties in their own regions and that they are given safe passage in Assad held lands. So between Assad and the Kurds, there is nobody else to depend on for security, on the ground in Syria. Obama has been blind to the real solution in Syria all along. The solution isn't to topple Assad, it's to bolster Syria’s Kurds because their link to Syria’s President Assad assures the safety of millions of Syrians who would be wounded, killed or worse if Assad falls. The United States of America must stop the flow of weapons to terrorists in Syria, not fund them. Saudi Arabia is backing President Assad’s opposition. Turkey, so over-consumed with aggression and vendetta, they throw in with the Saudis. The Saudis fuelled by blood lust in Yemen have let their egos get the better of them and are hatching self serving pro active plots with other states. This kind of meddling is dangerous for everyone. Why aren’t Obama's diplomatic corps cracking down on Saudi and Turkish meddling in Syria? The answer is Obama’s ideologies prevent him from admitting backing the Free Syrian Army is a bad idea, and from realizing he has Syria and Assad figured wrong. Somebody, somewhere should be talking about the dangers ahead in Syria, and objecting to America’s never-mind-the-consequences foreign policy against Assad.
