The Poppies

Some lay maimed on battlefields surrounded by the dead And others bled on beaches that turned the sand dark red.

They fought at sea and in the air in trenches wept and prayed And for the sake of freedom each with their lives they paid. In foreign fields white crosses stand witness to our dead And in between each marker a poppy bows her head. Roseanne Hamilton, November 6th 2014.
