The presence of God
The heartland of America
Imagine that. When the tornadoes were bearing down on Moore, Oklahoma, at least one teacher in one classroom sang "Jesus Loves Me" with her students. The louder the tornado, the louder they sang. And then they sang it again at the memorial for the 7 students who died at the Plaza Towers Elementary School.
In a part of the country that lives under the threat of danger, in the heartland of America, they haven't turned their backs on their God. Nobody is questioning the appropriateness of the action. Every loving, caring person can applaud the strength and calm that the teacher displayed as she reassured the children.
And yet, in other situations where the blessings of God are needed, we are prevented from asking for them. In court rooms and classrooms. We are allowing a few to deprive us of the comfort of acknowledging the presence of God and the right to ask for his protection. What is wrong with us?
