The Road to Perdition

The Road to Perdition, Civil War"Perdition began life as a word meaning 'utter destruction'; that sense is now archaic, but it provides a clue about the origins of the word. "Perdition" was borrowed into English in the 14th century from Anglo-French perdiciun and ultimately derives from the Latin verb perdere, meaning 'to destroy.'" (Source) Once the title of a Hollywood movie that takes place during the Great Depression as a mob enforcer and his son seek revenge against the mob boss who murdered their family, today it answers the question asked in an article that appeared on this site a year ago.

Abject failure of the Trump-Russian Collusion fable

"When it ends, where will all the hate go?" It read:
"America's weariness with the Mueller Investigation grows daily. Sooner or later, though, the saga will end. Then what? Where will all the Left's accumulated hatred go? Will it dissipate? Evaporate? And fade away? Not overnight, but in a few weeks will the white-hot hatred for all things Trumpian become merely a campfire of lingering embers, soon to be smothered by some new media narrative? Predictably, some voices will not be silenced under any condition."
We now know the answer to the titled question--and it's not among the several suggestions made then. The hatred is growing in intensity, as are the threats against President Trump and his supporters. The abject failure of the Trump-Russian Collusion fable has given birth to a new narrative. One as empty of evidence as was the Mueller Report. As a new hatred has taken shape. It is voiced as Democratic Party presidential candidates, and their liberal media outlets, shout in unison that Trump is a white-supremacy racist, as are his supporters.

"Murder Turtle," "Stab him in the heart"

We're seeing its impact spread. For example: The poster above appeared in the Suffolk County town of Patchogue on Long Island. In news from the entrainment Left of Hollywood, the Washington Times reported that:
"In light of the recent mass shootings, Universal Pictures is temporarily halting its advertising campaign for the 'The Hunt,' a forthcoming Hilary Swank-starring thriller that pictures a group of wealthy elites hunting down red-state 'deplorables' for fun."

The Democrat candidates have been handed a new song sheet, and all now sing in unison from it, with full-throated hatred

Vox notes how Democrat Congressman Joaquin Castro, presidential candidate Julian Castro's brother, "tweeted a list of 44 San Antonio donors who contributed the maximum amount under federal law to Trump in 2019. 'Sad to see so many San Antonians as of 2019 maximum donors to Donald Trump,' he wrote, calling out a couple of the city's better-known donors by their Twitter handles. 'Their contributions are fueling a campaign of hate that labels Hispanic immigrants as 'invaders.'" As President Trump was flying from Dayton, Ohio to El Paso, Texas, ABC News reported that, "in a forceful speech on the campaign trail on Iowa," Joe Biden asked, "How far is it from Trump saying this is an invasion to the shooter in El Paso declaring, quote, 'this attack is a response to the Hispanic invasion of Texas? How far apart are those comments,' Biden asked rhetorically. 'I don't think it's that far at all. It's both clear language and in code. This president has fanned the flames of white supremacy in this nation.'" ("Clear language and in code?" How does that work, Joe?) In an interview that posted on August 8, Presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris (D.CA.) states that Trump "is constantly creating terror in the people of our country." ("A nation in terror," really Kamala?) The Democrat candidates have been handed a new song sheet, and all now sing in unison from it, with full-throated hatred. Much of the same was said about an earlier U.S. President. Late in his First Inaugural Address on March 4, 1861, that President said:

"Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature."
Sadly, the arrival of the better angels was delayed, and, at least, 600,000 Americans died. Four years later, early in his Second Inaugural Address, that President said,
"On the occasion corresponding to this four years ago, all thoughts were anxiously directed to an impending civil war. All dreaded it, all sought to avert it. While the inaugural address was being delivered from this place, devoted altogether to saving the Union without war, insurgent agents were in the city seeking to destroy it without war--seeking to dissolve the Union and divide effects by negotiation. Both parties deprecated war, but one of them would make war rather than let the nation survive, and the other would accept war rather than let it perish, and the war came."
In 1861, the motive of the Democratic Party driving toward Civil War was sustaining the institution of slavery. Today, their driving motive is attaining political supremacy. Though different, they are similar. For both are based on the urgency to rule over others.
