Turn this runaway ship of state around

The Continuing Resolution, is fancy talk for approving discretionary (the things we have choices about) budget items. and things that require annual reapproval.

Translated, that means that 70% of the budget would not be affected, it would be business as usual. Such things as Social Security, disability and welfare are NOT discretionary. Of the remaining 30%, safety and security issues wouldn't be stopped, the military and air traffic controllers would continue working. Some people would be inconvenienced, some services would be slower and some National Parks and museums would be closed for a time. The question becomes, what kind of people are we? Spoiled and entitled or self-sufficient and hard-working? Are we a people who can look past the scare tactics and hype to understand that we have an opportunity as a country to begin, just begin, to turn this runaway ship of state around? Furthermore, if we can't handle these little inconveniences, how in the world can we face real cuts as we begin to attack the debt limit? Those in control are counting on us to crumble under the threats that we will see on every TV newscast and will emanate from the mouths of most politicians. The American people have an opportunity to let their representatives know that we are strong enough to endure some sacrifice and inconvenience for the good of future generation.
