The ground shifted Tuesday as Scott Brown came from 31 points down (in November) to win a stunning upset over Martha Coakley to fill the U.S. Senate seat held for 46 years by the late Ted Kennedy.
His victory was a decisive repudiation of the Democrats' plan to take over America's entire health care industry, move it in the direction of socialized medicine, provide taxpayer funding for abortions, and put a government bureaucrat between you and your doctor.
While we disagree with Brown on some very important issues, pundits on both sides of the aisle recognize that Brown's victory may very well signal the end of the government takeover of health care, making it potentially one of the most important elections in American history.
As a bonus, Erroll Southers, the president's poorly chosen nominee to head up the Transportation Security Administration, withdrew his name from consideration yesterday, saying his path had been "obstructed by political ideology."
AFA sent you an e-mail raising warning flags about Southers, and tens of thousands of you sent letters to your senators in response to our action alert on his nomination. You were heard. We won this particular battle and kept this guy out of a position he had no business holding.
Southers put global warming on "parity" with Islamic terrorism as a threat to national security, and said that "anti-abortionists" were as great a threat to national security as Muslim jihadists.
In addition, he wanted to unionize TSA employees, which would have made our national security subject to the whims of union bosses. And he lied to Congress last fall about his own possible violations of the federal Privacy Act in accessing and distributing confidential law enforcement information in a personal domestic dispute.
